Web-based PIN and Voicemail Information
Note that the majority of campus numbers are 610-660-XXXX. However, Merion Gardens and City Avenue residents' extensions are 610-747-XXXX. Four digit extension to extension dialing works for all extensions. Resident Student Telecommunications information ( Voicemail) is available on the Web.
Your Voice Mailbox information can be accessed via the Web by logging into MySJU at my.sju.edu and selecting 'School Services' then selecting 'Administrative Services', then selecting 'Personal Information', and finally selecting 'Telephone PIN and Voice Mail Information'.
Room Telephones
Each room is typically equipped with at least one standard modular telephone receptacle. Apartment style housing (Ashwood, Wynnewood, Merion Gardens, and City Ave. residences) generally provide individual dial tones on a per bed basis. Residents need to supply a personally owned telephone with a modular plug. This phone would then be shared depending upon the number of students in the room. The University does not support the telephone instruments that are provided by the residents. We would note that students frequently experience problems with portable phones. Students may wish to consider this when considering their purchase of a telephone.
Hall Telephones
There are commonly accessible telephones located in some residence halls and other buildings to provide students with convenient, no-cost calling to other Campus extensions.
Security Phones
There are a variety of security phones and pedestals on campus, which may either automatically dial to Public Safety or which can be manually dialed to request assistance.
Campus Calls
An unlimited number of calls to SJU campus extensions including: Security, Faculty and Administrative Offices, and student rooms are provided as part of your basic service. Calls may be initiated from any campus telephone by dialing the desired four (4) digit extension.
Voice Messaging
Each resident student is provided with a personal voice mailbox that can be accessed from any phone. Each mailbox is password protected to provide privacy. Unanswered calls to the student’s telephone number will automatically forward into his/her voice mailbox. Recognizing that most students prefer electronic messaging, the University added a new feature to student voice mailboxes. Every resident student may now retrieve and manage their voice mail messages via their e-mail account. Voice mail messages will be directed to the students SJU e-mail address as an attachment. A brief set up procedure will allow students to direct their voice mail to any e-mail address. As long as the student has a working sound card and speakers, he/she can now listen to his/her campus voice mail from any desktop or notebook computer
Service Charges and Billing
Each resident student is charged a basic fee of $60.00 per semester. This is applied to your tuition bill and is nonrefundable unless you leave campus housing, and is then credited based on your time spent in housing. The purpose of the fee is to help recover expenses for providing technology-based services to residence halls. This includes dial tone, wire maintenance, technical support, Internet access, emergency calling, local and long distance calling, voicemail, enhanced voicemail and other electronic messaging services.
The flat fee is an attempt to fairly distribute our costs to all residents. We are unable to prevent, or account for, an individual resident’s use of phones for incoming calls or for outgoing calls to other campus extensions. It is likely that use of the service for these types of calls represents the majority of overall system utilization. Telephony is viewed as a universally available service whose cost should be shared by all residents.
The Telecommunications Department of the Office of Information Technology in Barbelin Hall may be reached at extension 2920 or via email to phones@sju.edu.
