Telephone Features for Students

The following features are available for all students.

CALL WAITING

(Technical note: This feature is currently NOT available in Overbrook, Townhouses, Ashwood, Wynnewood, and Merion Gardens. NEC engineers are working on a solution to the problem of the second call not forwarding to the voicemail system. As soon as this is rectified, we will reactive the Call Waiting feature.)

THREE WAY CALLING

You can add a caller to an in-progress conversation. This can be a university, local or long distance caller.

To Use

Depress your Switchhook/Tap/Recall/Flash briefly.

Listen for dial tone
Dial third party
Depress your Switchhook/Tap/Recall/Flash briefly

Note: If the third party is busy or does not answer…Depress your Switchhook/Tap/Recall/Flash twice to be reconnected to your original party

Note: The use of this feature can appear on your telephone statement as two calls being made at the same time, if you originate both calls.

CALL FORWARDING

This feature allows you temporarily to forward all your calls to another telephone number. When you return to your room, you can then cancel the forwarding. This feature can only forward calls to another campus extension. ( Please note that this feature has changed as of 7/13/2001.)

To Activate Call Forwarding

Listen for dial tone
Dial " *72 " and then the number you want to forward to
Listen for the confirmation tone
Hang up

Calls will forward

To Cancel Call Forwarding

Listen for dial tone.
Dial " *73 "

Note: You can check to see if your phone is call forwarding (at any time) by simply dialing " *72 ". If you get a busy signal, call forwarding is programmed. If you get a recording saying "check the number and try again" or fast busy, the feature is not active on your line.

DISTINCTIVE RING

This feature allows the user to distinguish an incoming call from an on-campus station versus a call from an off-campus location.

A call from a campus station will be a standard ring about every 6 seconds.
An off-campus call will be 2 short rings about every 6 seconds.
