8 Party Conference Calling Service

This feature allows any user to establish a conference. The conference may include any combination of campus stations and outside parties. Note that while the conference bridge that supports conference calls provides for some amplification, the quality of the call will depend upon the quality of the connections with various parties. This may be of particular concern when wireless users are included on the conference. Note too that this a standard conference bridge that is designed to support basic conference call functionality. If more advanced features or functions are required, you may wish to use a network-based service for these calls. More information will be provided by the telecommunications department upon request.

Due to increased usage of the conference bridge, we request that you schedule your call.  Please contact Maren Weisler at extension 1007 to reserve a time slot.

Conference type: Meet-Me conference

This type conference allows campus stations and outside parties to dial into the conference call.

1) User wishing to establish a conference call (conference leader) calls each party and instructs them to call extension 3590 (from on campus) or 610-747-3590 (from off-campus) at the required time and date.

2) At the time and date of the call, the leader calls the special leader's conference number (3580 from on campus and 610-747-3580 from off-campus).

3) Conferees call the correct number and are automatically connected to the conference.

4) If the leader wishes, he/she may lock out additional parties at any time by dialing "0".

5) Conferees may hang up at any time without interrupting the conference. At the conclusion of the conference, the leader MUST disconnect all conferees by dialing "#". This will clear the bridge for the next conference call.

6) At any time the conference can support up to 8 parties. Additional callers to the conference will receive a busy signal.

Conference type: Station-Initiated Conference

This type conference call allows a campus station user to initiate the conference and to connect each party.

1) The conference leader dials extension 3590 and thereby connects to the conference.

2) The leader depresses the transfer button on his/her Dterm phone (or depresses the flash/switchook/link/or similar feature on a non-Dterm).

3) The leader dials the station or outside number for a conferee. Once the conferee answers, the leader hangs up and thereby connects the party to the conference.

4) The leader then sequentially connects additional parties to the conference by following steps 2 and 3 for each party until all are connected. If Voice Mail answers, press "*" repeatedly until the Voice Mail System disconnects. Then hangup and try again. Otherwise, you will connect the Voice Mail System as one of the conferees.

5) Once all parties are added, the leader may dial extension 3580 to join the conference call as the leader.

6) Conferees may hang up at any time without interrupting the conference. At the conclusion of the conference, the leader MUST disconnect all conferees by dialing "#". This will clear the bridge for the next conference call.

7) At any time the conference can support up to 8 parties.
