Blackboard for Students


Blackboard Course Management Software

Many faculty members at the university use a software package called Blackboard to deliver classroom materials to their students via the World Wide Web. In addition to providing syllabus information, instructional links, class notes and more, Blackboard provides communication tools that faculty may use outside of class.

Blackboard can be accessed in three ways:

Accessing Blackboard via MySJU (preferred method for students)

  • Login to MySJU ( Click Here for instructions to login to MySJU)
  • Click on the "My Courses" tab
  • A listing of the courses in which you are enrolled will appear.
  • When you click on a specific course link, you will be taken to your course's home page in Blackboard.

Accessing Blackboard, clicking on the “Access Blackboard my Institution” link

  • Login to My.sju.edu
  • Click on the “My courses” tab.
  • Scoll down on the page and click the “Access Blackboard my Institution” link
  • Clicking on the link will open Blackboard in a new window, the “My Institution” page of Blackboard will appear.

Accessing Blackboard directly (useful when having problems accessing Blackboard via MySJU such as when you are behind a company firewall)

  • Enter blackboard.sju.edu into the URL field of your web browser.
  • Click the Login button.
  • Enter your username and password and click the Login button (Use you’re my.sju login and password).
  • A listing of the courses in which you are enrolled will appear.
  • When you click on a specific course link, you will be taken to your course's home page in Blackboard.

 

Common Questions and Problems

"Page Cannot Be Displayed" error

This error message typically appears once you have successfully logged into MySJU and you click on the My Courses tab. This occurs for one of two reasons:

  • If you are attempting to access Blackboard through MySJU while at work. Some corporations have a firewall against websites such as Blackboard.
  • You need to change a security setting within your browser to allow you to access Blackboard through MySJU. Follow the instructions below to change the security setting:

    Instructions for Internet Explorer
    • Click on Tools button on your menu bar and select Internet Options...
    • Click on the Security tab (Note: If you are unable to select any of these options because they are grayed out, chances are you are at work and your company does in fact have websites like Blackboard blocked on its firewall. You will need to try and access Blackboard directly or use a different computer that is not behind the company firewall.)
    • Click the Custom Level button.
    • Scroll down to the section labeled Miscellaneous. In that section is an option that says "Access data sources across domains".
    • Choose Enable and click OK twice.
    • You may now try to access the My Courses tab again. If you still can't access Blackboard through the My Courses tab, try accessing Blackboard directly .
