Automatic Instructions
Turning on Automatic Updates today allows your PC to begin downloading important updates automatically, including the latest version of Windows Update. It also ensures you will receive future updates, such as SP2. To turn automatic updates on, do the following:
- Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
- Click Performance and Maintenance.
Note If the Performance and Maintenance category is not visible, click Switch to Category View. - Click System.
- Click Automatic Updates and then select Keep my computer up to date.
- Select a setting. Microsoft recommends selecting Automatically download the updates, and install them on the schedule that I specify and setting a daily update.
**You can set the automatic download time for any time, day or night. Just be sure your computer is on at that time. If you forget to leave your computer on, you will see a notification balloon near the time in the bottom right hand corner of your computer. Click the notification balloon to review and install the updates.
